Legendary Care for Houston

We’ve come a long way since opening in 1954 in a three-story building with 106 beds and 4,558 patients in our first year.

Today, Texas Children’s Hospital is one of the nation’s largest and most comprehensive specialty pediatric hospitals, with more than 3.5 million patient encounters annually. Our main campus location now has more than 500 licensed beds and six buildings, with one more on the way.

We’re constantly expanding to provide better care for more children and families who need us.

The groundbreaking of Texas Children's Hospital on May 23, 1951, marked the beginning of a new era in pediatric patient care. In our first year, we cared for 4,558 patients. Today, we have more than 3.3 million patient visits each year, and we're proud to provide care to children from right here in the Lone Star State to kids from across the country and around the world.

In 2012, we opened Texas Children's Pavilion for Women to provide comprehensive OB/GYN services for women and specialized care for babies from conception through birth. Offering a full spectrum of maternal and fetal medicine services, including an array of fetal diagnostic procedures and highly specialized fetal surgeries, a two-story circular sky bridge connects the Pavilion for Women to Texas Children’s Hospital enhancing patient care by providing physicians, staff and patient families with rapid access to other pediatric subspecialists. Three private OB/GYN practices, The Family Fertility Center, The Menopause Center and The Women’s Place – Center for Reproductive Psychiatry are all housed at the Pavilion for Women. Additionally, the hospital also recently opened a community-based OB/GYN practice in Pearland. For more information on Texas Children’s Pavilion for Women, visit women.texaschildrens.org.
